Point-of-Sale Shields

Project Overview

During the pandemic, I led a team of engineers to design point-of-sale (POS) shields—protective barriers at checkout counters—that allowed small businesses to operate safely while staying compliant. By working with available materials in a strained supply chain, we created a sandwich-style design using thin transparent plastics and aluminum extrusions. The shields were delivered as flat-pack self-assembly kits, making them affordable, scalable, and easy to deploy.

The Challenge

Small businesses lacked affordable, accessible barriers to safely serve customers during supply chain disruptions, threatening operations and regulatory compliance.

Approach

Directed the team in rapid design, prototyping, and material sourcing. Developed a flat-pack, self-assembly solution that minimized shipping, reduced costs, and maximized accessibility while ensuring safety and compliance.
